About Us
Official Fellow Citizen is a USA-based specialty coffee brand founded to honor America's 250th anniversary, the Semiquincentennial. GEORGE is a limited edition specialty coffee — small batch, lab tested, and fresh roasted in the United States — created from a family memory rooted in Washington D.C. during the 1976 Bicentennial. This is the story of how GEORGE began, from the Bicentennial to the Semiquincentennial.

Meet George From the Bicentennial to the Semiquincentennial
The summer of 1976 had a sound.
More Than a Feeling by Boston. Coming through a car radio on a Maryland morning while our parents packed the cooler before sunrise, loaded up the kids, and pointed the car toward Washington D.C. on the Fourth of July.
Back then phones hung on the walls. We drank from the garden hose. We waited weeks for photographs to come back from the developer. Then the Polaroid arrived and made memories instant. Our father had one around his neck that whole summer, clunky and magnificent, snapping the world into squares.
We were quiet kids. The kind who never raised their hands in class and counted the minutes until we could get back home to the basement. Encyclopedias on shelves, boxes of old photographs, my dog curled up nearby. We could get lost in those pages for hours while the neighborhood kids knocked on the door asking us to come outside.
But that Fourth of July was different.
The Mall was hot and humid in a way only Washington summers can be. We watched people wade into the reflection pool just to feel something cool and our father let us jump in too. Shy kids from the suburbs, suddenly surrounded by the whole energy of a nation marking a milestone. Our father moved through it all with that Polaroid around his neck, the shutter clicking all day long.
He stopped at the Washington Monument and looked up for a long moment. Then he started talking.
He told us that Washington was not just a name carved in stone. He was a general. A man who made difficult decisions and held something fragile together through character and will. He said the monument stands in no one's shadow. That the man it honors never did either.
Our father was a WWII Navy veteran. He carried that service the way his generation did. Quietly, and with great pride.
Something else was happening that day that we have never forgotten.
Moving through those Bicentennial crowds, strangers greeted one another with a warmth that felt like it belonged to another era. All afternoon we heard it drifting through the Mall like the music.
"Official fellow citizen."
Our father heard it and stood a little taller. We felt it standing next to him.
Then he raised the Polaroid. The shutter clicked. And just like that, the afternoon became permanent.
Memory is a funny thing. It blurs at the edges, loses details, gets lost in translation over time. But photographs hold what memory cannot. It is the images from our father's Polaroid that carry the stories we still reflect on today. Over a cup of George.
Our father is no longer alive.
We are still the quiet kids.
But that Polaroid never left us. The image. The afternoon. The monument standing in no one's shadow. The feeling of a day that belonged to something larger than any of us.
Fifty years later, with America preparing to mark its 250th anniversary, we wanted to honor that afternoon with something real. Something made with the same care and integrity that day represented.
That is GEORGE.
A limited edition specialty coffee. Small batch. Lab tested. Fresh roasted in the United States by roast masters who understand that quality is not a shortcut. Created exclusively for America's Semiquincentennial and available only through 2026.
The Polaroid of George Washington on every bag is not a design choice. It is the bridge between that July afternoon and this one. Between the Bicentennial and the Semiquincentennial. Between a father's lesson at a monument and a cup of coffee on your counter this morning.
Skip Joe. Enjoy a cup of George.
